Do You Laugh Enough?

Do you laugh enough?

I thought I did... but when I really stopped to think about it, my answer was a resounding no.

Most of my days are filled with work. Then there's the house, the bills, family responsibilities, trying to squeeze everything into seven days with only twenty-four hours in each one, and somehow finding enough time to sleep so I can do it all again. Whew... I'm tired just thinking about next week.

Somewhere along the way, laughter gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

The truth is, we don't make enough room for joy anymore. Some days laughter doesn't seem to find us at all, and life starts to feel... flat.

I think part of the problem is that we've become guarded.

We've learned to protect ourselves because one wrong word, one misunderstood moment, or one mistake can end up being judged or talked about for the whole world to see. So we keep our distance. We stay polite. We stay safe.

But safe can also be lonely.

Even people we were once close to seem to have invisible walls around them. And honestly, I don't blame them because I've built a few walls myself.

That makes me sad.

I miss real friendships.

The kind where you know someone has your back no matter what. The kind where you can pick up the phone just to laugh for an hour. The kind where you spend a Saturday wandering through little shops, grabbing a sweet tea or coffee, sharing lunch, and talking about absolutely nothing important.

Why has that become so hard?

Maybe because we've all been hurt. We've been disappointed, ignored, betrayed, or simply let down one too many times.

But here's what I keep coming back to...

When our lives are over, it won't be the endless to-do lists we'll remember most.

It will be the people.

The conversations that lasted longer than planned. The spontaneous road trips. The coffee dates. The inside jokes. The moments where you laughed so hard you couldn't catch your breath, looked across the table at your friend doing the exact same thing, and somehow laughed even harder.

Those are the moments that become our memories.

Those are the moments that make life rich.

Maybe today is a good day to call that friend. Send the text. Make the plans. Put down the phone for a while and choose real connection over perfect appearances.

Because life wasn't meant to be lived guarded.

It was meant to be shared.

And I don't know about you... but I think we could all use a little more laughter.
