How Does Faith Work?
How does faith work?
From the time we’re young, many of us hear people talking about faith. At least I did. I even used the word myself for most of my life. But it wasn’t until I was older that I truly began to understand what it means to have faith.
There have been many times in my life when I made it through incredibly difficult situations and looked back thinking, I don’t know how any of that worked out. I prayed and asked God to give me strength and help, but if I’m being honest, I never truly took my hands off the situation and placed it completely in His. I still tried to control the outcome myself.
How many of you have been there?
Lying awake at night because sleep wouldn’t come. Your mind racing because you had no idea how to fix the problem. Stress and anxiety became your constant companions, and maybe you even have the stomach ulcers to prove it.
My friend, I’m learning that faith is taking our own hands off the problem and placing it into God’s hands. It’s praying fervently, seeking His guidance, and trusting that He sees what we cannot.
The hard part is waiting.
We’re not very good at patience. We don’t like waiting for answers because God works on His timing, and His timing rarely matches ours. So we push ahead, trying to force doors open, determined to solve everything ourselves.
Sometimes we manage to fight our way through, though we often come away carrying battle scars. Other times we fall flat on our faces. I know I have.
More and more, I’m learning that faith isn’t about pretending the problem doesn’t exist. It’s about believing that God is already at work, even when I can’t yet see what He’s doing.
As Scripture reminds us:
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” — Psalm 27:14
That doesn’t mean waiting is easy. Some days I still catch myself trying to take the problem back from God, as if my worrying will somehow accomplish what His wisdom is already in motion to do.
I am learning that faith is a daily choice. Every morning I have to decide whether I am going to carry the burden myself or trust the One who has promised to carry it with me. The more I choose Him, the more peace I find-not because every problem disappears, but because I know I do not have to face them alone.
If any of this resonates, what burden are you carrying today that God has been asking you to place in His hands? I would love to pray with you. You do not have to share the details-just know you are not alone.
